What to Expect
The first session is usually about getting to know you and talk about the issues that concern you. Often a goal is then set that may become a focus of subsequent sessions.
The number of sessions will vary depending on your needs. Some clients benefit from a couple of sessions while others may need 10-20 sessions. Sessions can be weekly or fortnightly or less frequent at a later stage of therapy.
Sessions are usually 50 minutes in duration.
We make sure that our clients have absolute privacy and confidentiality and any information will only be released with consent.
Do I need a referral to see a Clinical Psychologist?
You do not need a referral to see a Psychologist and can ring up to book an appointment. However you cannot get a Medicare rebate without a GP referral.
How do I access the Medicare rebate for a Clinical Psychologist?
You need a GP Mental Health Care Plan and a referral letter specifying the number of sessions your GP is referring you for (usually 6) to access the Medicare rebate. At this moment, due to COVID-19 pandemic individuals are entitled to a Medicare rebate for up to 20 sessions per calendar year (until June 2022).
How much does it cost?
Our fees are well below those recommended by the Australian Psychological Society (APS). Our standard rate is $190 per session for face-to-face appointments and $180 for telehealth sessions. We are Medicare service providers and individuals with a GP Mental Health Care Plan are entitled to $128.40 per session rebate from Medicare. Rebates are also available from some health funds.
We offer reduced rates, see clients under the WentWest Primary Health network or at times bulk-bill if they are on Centrelink benefits and/or are experiencing financial hardship. Please discuss your circumstances with us when booking your first appointment.
